Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker is known as the Father of the Library Movement in Kerala. The activities of the Kerala Grandhasala Sanghom which was initiated by P. N. Panicker ignited a popular cultural movement in Kerala at the end of which the state acquired total literacy in the 1990s
Panicker was born on 1 March 1909, as the son of Govinda Pillai and Janaky Amma at Neelamperoor in Alappuzha District.[1] A teacher by profession, he started *Sanadanadharmam*Library in his birthplace in 1926. Though his formal education had not reached high levels, he could do to society much more than many who were highly educated in his times.He died on 19 June 1995, at the age of 86.
